Mistral Associates - News March 2021
It barely seems possible that it is 30 years since, in March 1991, Mistral released 'Coldwind'. Mistral's first Windows 'Expert System' software version.
Based upon its DOS predecessor 'Coldroom' which started life in 1984, 'Coldwind' came with an advanced Graphical User Interface with multiple 'sub-routines', revolving around a single, icon and menu driven main form, along with an astonishingly flexible 'Drag & Drop' and simple to use room design plan ideogram.
Fully 'Dynamically Error Trapped' to automatically identify and eliminate user scientific or technical input errors it was, and to a great extent still is, unique in the software genre that Mistral alone was responsible for creating.
Marketed at the time with an admittedly somewhat unwieldy introduction:-

'Coldwind' copes with coldroom and freezer designs with any number of rooms, built with any number of wall surfaces with any mix of insulating materials, arranged at any angles to one another, containing any commonly stored food product or mix of products, introduced at any realistic practical temperatures and to meet any commercially acceptable design temperature conditions. Located anywhere on planet Earth and for every hour and day of the year.

All without program users requiring any external information or tables. 'Coldwind' is also instantly switchable between Imperial and SI (Systeme Internationale or metric) units of measurement at any time.
Fundamentally, and an enormous fundamental at that, 'Coldwind' doesn't just save its calculation results, which incidentally it automatically exports to thousands of interactive RAC equipment databases, but it also saves every key press and menu selection which went into creating that guaranteed accurate result. Meaning a calculation file can be retrieved an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year or even a decade later and still be edited, copied, and resaved if needs be.
Thirty years on and now supplied with over four million, industry standard 'Pre-engineered' designs selectable from simple cascading menus in under 10 seconds. Along with instant translation into 10 different languages.
'Coldwind Pro' version will also cope with refrigerated trucks and containers, including airfreight cargo containers, blast freezers and blast chillers, agricultural produce stores and food 'Preprooms'.
Dynamically linked and focused multi-lingual Help Pages. Intelligent logic program navigation to eliminate redundant input or questions. No previous computer experience whatsoever required prior to use. Automatic 'plain language' End User sales presentation quality printed reports.
A multi tens of million Euro and continuously ongoing software development. Widely accepted across the world as the RAC industry standard program and the one against which all its subsequent imitations are measured. Available for RAC Professionals from as little as a few Cents or Pence per day.
Still unmatched today from anywhere in the world. Unassailable.
