Why are buildings built?

Two reasons.

Primarily to control the environment inside. That is air quality as defined by
cleanliness, temperature and humidity.

Secondly. Security for the occupants or property contained within.

End of. No other reasons.

All the bullshit about 'Making a statement.', 'Enhancing the environment' etc.,
are just figments of the over zealous and highly inflated egos of a handful of
people who have contrived to add letters after their names. Laying claim to a
monopoly. Creating some of the most hideously ugly edifices in the process.

Leaving highly qualified but uncelebrated mechanical services engineers to
pick up the pieces and make these often abominable creations, or carbuncles
as the UK's King Charles III once so aptly described them, actually work.
