The quaint, pretty village of Mordreuc, situated on the banks of France's spectacular, Bretagne, Rance Estuary once had a beautiful mascot. Joséphine, la phoque (the seal).

Joséphine adopted Mordreuc to be her cherished home for almost twenty years. Mordreuc's inhabiants being pleasant and agreeable people. She probably liked the local food too.

Joséphine's choice of home drew thousands of visitors from far and wide. Her presence reposing on the granite quay just metres away from the hospitable, excellent 'La Cale' restaurant certainly boosting custom.

Sadly Joséphine died in late April 2021, drawing in tributes from across the whole nation. We therefore feel it only befitting for the memory of Joséphine's convivial and gentle nature be preserved by a bronze memorial.
