Vegans are shunning Vegan food products on Supermarket shelves. Why?

Not rocket science. My career has pulled me into food production and distribution, food retailing and Hospitality industries, for much of my working life. Five decades actualy. I therefore feel justified claiming some knowledge! arrow_left_red_icon.gifClick!

The reason for falling Vegan food product sales is simple. It is due to major food producers adopting a patronizing attitude and presenting the market with 'look alike' or 'simulated' meat products. That is not want Vegan people wish to consume. It is also offensive and deeply insulting to Vegans and Vegetarians alike.

I have great respect for both Vegetarian and Vegan lifestyle choosers. If I had not been brought up (with a wonderful childhood I must add, involving a very, very high regard for animal welfare), on a small mixed arable and livestock farm I probably would have been a Vegan too. Nothing wrong with that. But don't patronize! My personal dilemma is that I am lazy. Acclimatized from birth to consume meat it is a difficult habit to break. But I do my best and I try to eat meat and dairy products less and less as every month goes by. I also feel fitter for doing so.

Produce food which Vegans wish to eat and you will succeed. If not, then get out of the industry. Otherwise you will fail. Rightly so. Food Marketeers need to go back to school! Stop trying to imitate meat.

Vegetarians and Vegans are not freaks or Extra Terrestrials demanding of or deserving of special attention. Vegans have simply made a legitimate and in many respects, a healthy and also a noble lifestyle choice.
