I walked into the typing pool and was astonished to see young Chloé sobbing her heart out.

"Take no notice." Said Sophie. "She's been doing it all day. Boyfriend dumped her. Again!"

That was a little harsh I thought, but girls can be girls, as we mature men know.

"It's five O'Clock Chloé, drop by my office before you drive home. We can have a little chat."

"OK Chris. Thanks. That'll be nice. I'll do that."

And so Chloé did drop by.

"Come in Chloé, sit down please. I know it's hard but it happens to all of us, at some time or another. You will find it difficult to believe right now, but you will get over it, in time. You deserve much better. Think of me as your big brother and you can come in for a chat at any time."

"Big brother!   Big BROTHER?!   I think of you as my D a d d y!"

At which point Chloé leapt to her feet and flung her arms around me.

At the very moment my PA walked into my office.

Daddy indeed!     I've had better days.
