What is Code Signing?

Code signing is a technology for verifying the authenticity of the publisher of a download to avoid a computer virus or malware. Software that is officially certifed by an authorised agent of Microsoft Corporation with a digital signature is considered safe to download. Software developers must also provide evidence and proof of relevant business registration in the country or countries of their location, along with confirmed contact details.
Code signed software is certified to have not been tampered with by any party from after the time it was compiled by its vetted, registered and approved software developer.
Unsafe or unrecognized software publishers may be identified by an Operating System form indicating that the publisher or author is not recognised by Microsoft Corporation, and cautioning the user to use their own resources to make certain the download is from a trusted source.
